This ‘Milanese’ full-harness displays the characteristic robust and rounded appearance of armour produced in northern Italy throughout the 15th century. Armour of this type incorporates large and smooth glancing surfaces in its construction, the theory being that these rounded surfaces would help to deflect an opponents weapons.
Renaissance Style Swept Hilt Rapier
The swept-hilt rapiers and their attendant main gauches have now been redesigned to provide lighter, better balanced pieces than earlier models. The hilts are now of the same size as the museum pieces on which they are based, providing an authentic "feel" in the user's hand.
The Fencing Rapier, a standard in the sport, is available with either the Schlaeger blade (XC-B2301HS) or double-wide Epee (Musketeer) blade (XC-2301HS). Either blade will fit the XC-103LO sheath. The matching Main Gauche (XC-3301HS) is fitted with a training blade that combines adequate parrying stiffness at the forte with tip flexibility for safety, making the piece ideal for two-weapon sparring.
